Angels Free Agents: Who’s Coming Back?

Angels Articles

November 7, 2025 - Written by Alex Sukyas

The Angels are set to lose 10 players to free agency. These players are Kenley Jansen, Yoán Moncada, Tyler Anderson, Andrew Chafin, Luis García, Luis Rengifo, José Ureña, Chris Taylor, Hunter Strickland, and Kyle Hendricks. This prompts the question: Which of these players could the Angels potentially resign?

Tyler Anderson

Anderson has been with the team for the past 3 years. In these three years, he had a total ERA of 4.53 and 365 Ks. He also went down at the end of August with an Oblique strain, and hasn’t been on the mound since. When it comes to whether the 35-year-old will return, I doubt it. I think it will be much smarter for the Angels to go out and look for a starter in the free agency market, as Anderson’s performance has steadily declined. For example, Anderson’s 2024 ERA was 3.81, then his 2025 ERA was 4.56.

Kyle Hendricks

After spending 11 major league seasons with the Cubs, Kyle Hendricks signed a 1 year deal to spend 2025 pitching for the Angels. In this 1 season, Hendricks had a 4.76 ERA with 114 Ks in 164.2 Innings. However, due to Hendrick’s age, many sources are rumoring that Hendricks will be retiring this offseason. However, Hendricks has said nothing confirming or denying these rumours. Overall, I see Hendricks either returning to Anaheim or Chicago on a 1 year deal or retiring.

Kenley Jansen

Jansen had an amazing year in Anaheim this past season. The 38-year-old closer finished the year with a 2.59 ERA, racking up 29 saves and only one blown save in 59 Innings Pitched. As for whether or not Jansen would return to Anaheim, I would say there is a decent chance. It's ultimately up to the front office to decide whether Jansen should return. After all, shortly after the Angels’ season ended, Jansen said, “I care about these guys in this clubhouse. I want to be a part to help them bring this organization back to the postseason. That’s for sure. But at the same time, when it becomes an open market, everything can go. You never know where you’re going to go, where [you're] going to end up. So that’s the one thing I learned about the last four years on the free agent market. So it’s basically not in my hands. It’s in their hands.” (Per Jeff Fletcher of the OC Register)

Andrew Chafin

Chafin was one of the Angels’ best relievers this season after being traded from the Washington Nationals. The 35-year-old lefty had a 1.98 ERA with 18Ks in 13.2 Innings as an Angel. As a National, he had a 2.70 ERA with 18Ks in 20 innings. Despite his success in Anaheim, I don’t see him coming back next season. In 2024, after being traded to the Texas Rangers, he famously said, “At least it’s not California.” Sure, since being traded to the Angels, his view of California has changed, as he said, “his experience in California so far has been positive, highlighting the hospitality he has experienced and that he was able to go fishing [shortly after arrival].” (Per Sports Illustrated) I still see Chafin signing with a team closer to his home in Ohio rather than returning to the Angels.

Luis García

After being traded to Anaheim with Chafin, García had an amazing third stint with the Angels. In 2025 with the Angels, García posted a 2 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 18 innings. This stint was significantly better than his first 2, where in his 1st stint with the Angels in 2019, he had a 4.35 ERA with 57 Ks in 62 Innings. Then, in his second stint in 2024, he had a 3.71 ERA with 21 Ks (43.2 IP) before getting traded to the Boston Red Sox at the deadline for a 4-prospect haul that included Angels OF Matthew Lugo. As for whether he’ll return, I would say he’s another toss-up. He would definitely be a good player to resign, given how effective he was after the trade deadline and how affordable he’d likely be with his last contract being a 1-year, $760,000 deal with the Nats before being traded.

José Ureña

Ureña spent a very small amount of time with the Angels this season. He appeared in 6 games (19 Innings) and had a 3.79 ERA in that span. During 2025, he pitched for 5 different teams. (NYM, LAD, TOR, MIN, LAA) With Ureña, I doubt he’ll come back, as the Angels could find a better bullpen arm in free agency.

Hunter Strickland

Strickland has been with the team for the past 2 seasons, as well as for a short period in 2021. In these last 2 seasons with the Angels, Strickland has had a 3.30 ERA with 71 strikeouts in 101.2 total innings. Overall, a really solid stat line. However, Strickland suffered a shoulder sprain in July that would sideline him for the rest of the season. As for whether he returns, I think it's highly unlikely. According to MLB.com, Strickland elected free agency on November 2nd, 2025, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Luis Rengifo

After 7 seasons with the Angels, Rengifo has become a core part of this Angels team. Rengifo made his debut with the Angels in an April 2019 game vs the Yankees, where he would record his first career hit. Since then, he’s batted .250 with 62 career HRs and 571 hits. There’s been little indication that Rengifo wants to return, but regardless, it’s hard to see the front office bringing him back. He has constantly been involved in trade rumours throughout his Angels career, the most infamous one being the 2020 trade that would’ve sent Joc Pederson, Ross Stripling, and at the time prospect Andy Pages to the Angels in return for Rengifo and at least one prospect. This trade would’ve been huge for the Angels, seeing how well Pages turned out. However, it was shot down by owner Arte Moreno due to impatience with the process. Along with this, Rengifo has had some major injuries during his career with the Halos, such as the wrist injury he sustained in July 2024 that would sideline him for the rest of the season. Overall, seeing how Rengifo has been involved in these major trade rumours and his injury history, I don’t see why the Angels would want to bring him back. There are plenty of better options on the free agent market compared to Rengifo. For example, the KBO’s Sung-Mun Song. Song can play multiple infield positions(1st, 2nd, and 3rd base), like Rengifo, and is said to have better defense than Rengifo. Song has also put up good batting stats in the KBO, and with the right coaching, those stats could be matched in the MLB.

Yoán Moncada

Moncada signed a 1-year, $5 million deal with the Angels later in the 24/25 offseason. In that season, he played 84 games, batting .234 with 12 HRs. As for whether he returns, I think he will return as a depth piece. (assuming the Angels sign a major free agent 3rd Baseman) The Angels have had issues at third base since Rendon signed with the team in 2019. In 2025, Moncada has done a solid job in filling this Rendon-sized hole when he has been healthy.

Chris Taylor

Chris Taylor was released by the Dodgers after playing only 28 Games with them in 2025. The Angels would be the team to pick him up, but injuries limited his availability in Anaheim. He only played 30 games with the Halos as he fractured his hand two times in a row in 2025, sidelining him for the season. As for whether he’ll come back, another maybe. If he returns, he’ll likely fill a depth or utility role.
