The Angels have officially reached the 50 game mark of the season. The team as a whole has had its ups and its downs. But what about the individual players? Lets see how they have performed throughout this season!

C Logan O’Hoppe: B

Statline: .274 BA, 14 HR, 30 RBI, 0 SB, 0.8 WAR

Logan O’Hoppe has been one of the best catchers in baseball, offensive wise. Defensively hes been somewhat concerning. Let's start with talking batting. O’Hoppe ranks 5th in batting average for MLB catchers, per Statmuse. He’s batting .274, just behind a .275 batting Hunter Goodman of the Colorado Rockies. However, its not the batting average that makes his batting stats impressive, it's his Home Runs and RBIs that do. O’Hoppe ranks 2nd in homeruns amongst catchers, having 14 and only being behind Seattle Mariners C Cal Raleigh (17). For RBIs, he ranks 3rd amongst catchers with 30, being behind Rockies C Hunter Goodman and Mariners C Cal Raleigh. These stats are great for him and the Angels, but there is a downside to his game. His defense hasn’t been as good as would be expected of him this season. O’Hoppe ranks 45th amongst catchers when it comes to dealing with runners stealing, 63rd for blocking amongst catchers, and 58th for framing, all per Baseball Savant. Overall, I would still give O”Hoppe a B as offensive stats and him staying healthy and clutch (Batting .321 with RISP) when needed makes up for it.

C Travis d’Arnaud: C-

Statline: .191 BA, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 0 SB, 0.0 WAR

Travis d’Arnaud has been disappointing offensively, but defensively he’s been doing better than O’Hoppe. Offensively, d’Arnaud doesn’t crack the top 20 on any major stat. Defensively, his ranking have also been rather low, but he's been a better option than O’Hoppe in this aspect. He ranks 53 when it comes to catching players stealing, 50th when it comes to blocking, and 25th for framing. Overall, his stats and the way he’s been playing have been underwhelming, but he was brought onto the team as a backup and mentor role to O’Hoppe, so he will get a C-.

1B Nolan Schanuel: A-

Statline: .280 BA, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 1 SB, 0.4 WAR

Nolan Schanuel has been a solid 1B so far this season. His defense has been alright, (26th out of all eligible 1B). But I am going to primarily be looking at offense for this grade, due to his positional roles. Schanuel solid .280 batting average ranks him 8th for BA out of all 1B, with this being better than notable 1B such as Matt Olson and Christian Walker. He doesn’t crack the top 25 for HRs and RBIs amongst 1B but he does rank 6th for OBP amongst 1B, having 25 walks and showing great plate discipline this season. He’s also played all but 2 games this season, earning him an overall grade of an A-.

2B Tim Anderson: B-

Statline: .200 BA, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 1 SB, 0.0 WAR

Tim Anderson has been playing better than expected. As a player whos career has gone down the drain in recent years, he’s making a comeback of sorts. His offense still isn’t what it used to be, hence the .200 BA, but his defense tells a different story. Tim Anderson currently ranks 7th defensively out of all eligible 2B and 14th overall defensively for all positions. He’s also only had 2 errors this season. I think the Angels got more than what fans were expecting when he signed a minor league deal with the Angels. I think all of this earns him a B-, and if his batting gets better, maybe he’ll find himself with a higher grade.

2B Kyren Paris: D+

Statline: .198 BA, 6 HR, 11 RBI, 7 SB, 0.9 WAR

Kyren Paris started off the season extremely well, and then something happened and he hit an extreme slump, resulting in him currently batting .198. However, his defense has remained persistent, with him ranking 15th of all MLB 2B. With his hot start and slump considered, I would give him a D+. and I would say the Angels should send him back to the minor leagues until he gets his rhythm back.

SS Zach Neto: A

Statline: .287 BA, 8 HR, 19 RBI, 8 SB, 2.0 WAR

Zach Neto has been flawless offensively this season. Defense wise, he’s been decent. Despite missing the start of the season, he’s ranked 7th in Batting average, 6th in homeruns, 18th in RBIs, and 13th in OBP amongst all MLB shortstops. Recently, he's also been hot when it comes to batting. He's been hitting around .300 recently, and isn’t showing any signs of stopping. His defense hasn't been as impressive, but respectable, ranking 22nd out of 35 eligible shortstops. Overall, his offensive results so far this season has been the main highlight, earning him an A.

SS Kevin Newman: D

Statline: .191 BA, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 1 SB, -0.3 WAR

Kevin Newman hasn’t played especially well this season, with low batting stats and disappointing defense. There isn’t much else to say about him outside of that he hasn’t appeared in many games either. (19/50) I would give him a D.

3B Luis Rengifo: C-

Statline: .217 BA, 1 HR, 11 RBI, 1 SB, -1.5 WAR

Luis Rengifo hasn’t been playing well this season compared to last season. Last season, Rengifo batted .300 with 6 HRs and 30 RBIs in 78 games. So comparing that to this season, he’s taken a big step down. His .217 BA ranks 15th of all 3rd basemen, and his defense is ranked 31st of all 3rd basemen. This disappointing step down will land Rengifo a C-.

3B Yoán Moncada: B

Statline: .237 BA, 4 HR, 17 RBI, 0 SB, 0.6 WAR

Yoán Moncada, a new addition to this Angels team, has been playing well for the 1 year $5 million he was given by the Angels. His batting has been decent, with him ranking 16th for home runs of all 3rd basemen and 16th for RBIs. His defense has been great, as he is known for his defensive side of his game, he’s found himself ranked 14th of all 3rd basemen. All of this considered, he gets a B.

LF Taylor Ward: A-

Statline: .228 BA, 15 HR, 36 RBI, 0 SB, 0.8 WAR

Taylor Ward has been a bright spot for this Angels offense. His 15 HRs have boosted him to be currently leading all Left Fielders in HRs and is 2nd for HRs out of all Outfielders, only being behind Aaron Judge. His defense hasn’t been the best, but he’s had some plays that prevented runs from being scored. His season is similar to last season, all though he is on pace for significantly more HRs. With all of this, he’s getting an A-.

CF Matthew Lugo: A-

Statline: .250 BA (T9th CF), 3 HR, 6 RBI, 0 SB, 0.5 WAR

Matthew Lugo has made a splash since joining the team. He had a hot start, but is now stabilizing at a .250 batting average. He’s tallied 3 HRs and 6 RBIs, in the little games he’s played compared to others. His batting average is the 9th best amongst Center Fielders, so it’s showing he can compete at this level. Hopefully he can keep this form and not hit a major slump like Kyren Paris did.

CF Jo Adell: D+

Statline: .186 BA, 6 HR(12th CF), 20 RBI, 1 SB, -0.7 WAR

32nd defensively CF

Jo Adell’s season has not been great. While he’s had his highlights, the remainder of his game has suffered. He’s batting a low .186, is ranked 32nd defensively for Center Fielders, and the only part of his game going for him is his power, as he has 6 HRs. (12th for CFs). On the bright side, his clutch has been good, with him getting some much needed hits, and his RBI count is solid.

RF Mike Trout: B-

Statline: .179 BA, 9 HR, 18 RBI, 2 SB, -0.2 WAR

Mike Trout was playing well before he got injured. His batting average was poor, and his defense isn’t what it used to be, but his power and clutch hitting is still very much there. He also still has his speed too back his clutch hitting. His 9 HRs also included a HR that still leads the league for longest HR this season, which went 484 feet in Anaheim. Overall, with his injury holding him back as well as his recent position change over the offseason, Trout gets a B-.

RF/DH Jorge Soler: B

Statline: .227 BA, 7 HR(T11 RF), 19 RBI(16th RF), 0 SB, 0.1 WAR

Jorge Soler, another new addition to this Angels team when the Halos Traded P Griffin Canning to the Braves for Soler, has been playing rather well for the Halos. He’s hit 7 HRs, which ties him for 11th amongst Right Fielders, and has 19 RBIs, placing him 16th amongst Right Fielders. His batting average is low, which was expected, as Soler hits for power. As SOler has primarily been playing DH, his defensive rankings won’t be very accurate, but when he has been on defense, it's been decent.
