We are officially in “September call-ups” territory and the Angels have brought up some minor leaguers to finish the season with the big-league squad. Lets take a look at some names that could possibly start next season at the major league level and who we should be keeping an eye on to make the jump.

Caden Dana

Caden Dana is a name that could absolutely start next season at the major league level. The handling of Dana up to this point by the team has been perplexing to say the least. He had a brief three game sting last season that had its highs and lows. His MLB debut against the Mariners last year was fantastic, as he threw six innings while only giving up two runs and striking out four. His next two starts were brutal to say the least, but it gave him that major league experience. This season he’s had three different stints with the team, both only lasting one game and both were bullpen assignments. This left Angel fans very confused as to why they would move him to the bullpen and to make matters worse, his performances were underwhelming. His latest outings have finally been as a starter, and he’s had some glimmers of success. He pitched five innings against the Royals a couple weeks ago only allowing one run and striking out four. Dana has had some success at the major league level and that should be an indicator that he can hold his own. If he closes out this year strong and performs well in spring training, there’s no doubt that Caden Dana will be in the starting rotation next season.

Christian Moore

Christian Moore spent a good amount at the major league level this season, enough to lose his prospect status, but we’ll still include him on this list. He made his debut back on June 13th against the Orioles and was sent down once but was recently recalled back to the majors. In his 42 games he’s hitting .197 with six HR while carrying a .670 OPS. One could say that his most memorable game was his two HR performance back in June against the Red Sox, where one of his home runs was a walk off. Moore’s situation is a different one considering the circumstances of the team. Luis Rengifo has been the starter at 2B for a majority of the season. Rengifo is due to hit free agency this offseason, and it is highly unlikely that the team will bring him back amid his season long struggles. That leaves the door wide open for Moore to take the job at 2nd base for the upcoming season. Chris Taylor is the only other option at second base, and he's also set to hit free agency this year with his situation unknown as to whether he will return or not. Regardless if Christian Moore performs well or not during Spring Training it’s hard to see him not winning the 2nd base job for next season.

Nelson Rada

This is a very interesting case when it comes to the probability of him making the big-league roster. Nelson Rada was signed as an international prospect by the Angels back in 2022 and has been promoted every year since signing. He was recently promoted to AAA where he has been on an absolute tear. In 30 games, he carries a slash line of .322/.443/.426. Next year’s outfield situation will be very interesting considering the circumstances the team is in. Jo Adell seems like he’s finally found his footing in the big leagues and earned the spot of everyday RF. Taylor Ward also has LF on lock, but whether the team is willing to part with him to get a decent return is still a mystery. Bryce Teodosio has been terrific defensively in CF but has been underwhelming at the plate. It seems like Mike Trout can no longer play the outfield and Jorge Soler has been hurt on top of performing poorly all year. Rada is still only 19, but with the glaring need in the outfield and Rada’s quick ascending through the minors, anything is possible at this point. It could even be a possibility that he gets called up before the end of this season.

Don’t Count Them Out Just Yet

  • Denzer Guzman- recently called up SS with elite defensive instincts and still only 21 years old

  • Sam Aldegheri- LHP who has a handful of MLB appearances

  • George Klassen- LHP acquired in the Carlos Estevez trade a couple years ago

  • Ryan Johnson- RHP who made the major league roster last season without playing a game in the minors; later was demoted to High-A

There are still plenty of other prospects in the system to look forward to aside from the names mentioned. The obvious name would be the man taken 2nd overall in this year’s draft, Tyler Bremner. Other names like Chase Shores and Nate Snead are potential options to promote at some point in the upcoming year. Although the farm system still ranks as one of the worst in all of baseball, there is still something to look forward to with some of the players there. Not all prospects have to be Top 100 names to be successful. There are plenty of names in recent years that were highly touted prospects and ended up being complete busts, but it’s up to the franchise to develop these young guys and have them ready to take that big step to The Show.
