As of today, the Angels sit 1.5 games out of a wild card spot and according to Fangraphs have a 7.2% chance of cracking a playoff berth, many sites have them below 4%. If the team decides to sell, I'll go into detail about how players are distributed in groups according to their likelihood of getting dealt. This week, I will compile a list of those who have demonstrated significant potential this year and have consistently performed at elevated levels, thus securing their positions in the team's future.

Reid Detmers (Likelihood to Get Traded: Extremely Low)

Many longtime fans of this team and I have been substantial Detmers believers. In my article regarding the state of our bullpen in the early parts of the season, I highlighted that Detmers when producing his well known velocity combined with his control can be lethal. The control was the clear issue, and as of late May continuing into June, the southpaw has completely dominated. In the sweep of the former World Champions, Reid Detmers gave up only 1 earned run in 2 innings of work with 2 strikeouts and 3 hits working out of a jam. In June, Detmers excelled by securing his inaugural career save during a pivotal 10th inning in Boston, followed by a second career save in a 6-5 victory against the Athletics. His steadiness was shown the same week when, the day prior, he retired three consecutive batters in extra innings against the Athletics, enabling Nolan Schanuel to ultimately secure the victory. As of late, Reid has basically been unhittable, pitching 11 straight innings without a single earned run giving up just six hits and striking out 18 batters in high leverage situations. Detmers remains under team control for several more seasons and is still only 25. The upside is consistently flashed and the team has made it clear there is zero rush to make him a starter again as he continues to find himself in the bullpen. My expectation is that unless Minasian is flashed with an offer that includes loads of prospect talent, the franchise gives Detmers plenty of time to develop in the bullpen and down the line swap him with Hendricks.

Travis d’Arnaud (Likelihood to Get Traded: Medium)

This one is even tricky for me to predict on one hand Travis has been an incredible depth piece giving O’Hoppe quality days off. His bat has truly started to come around as well and as I am writing this has gone 3-4 with a homerun that tied the game against the Red Sox. Now, on the other hand Travis d’Arnaud has just one more year on his contract and could be an everyday backup for teams looking to make a push. This most likely instills the narrative that the haul in return for him could be solid. His experience in the playoffs is also a huge calling card as he was a world series champion with the Atlanta Braves in 2021. His contract appeal along with a steady lefty bat and leadership will definitely have several teams calling the phones. In my opinion, if his bat keeps up and we decide to sell, Travis is the only guy I think we should hang on too. In June, the lefty is batting .235 over 11 games with 2 homeruns, 6 RBIs, and a solid .682 OPS. His 4 homeruns over the whole season have been in clutch moments too. His first home run of the year was a decisive two-run shot that secured our victory against the Dodgers, followed by three game-tying home runs in June. His finest performance occurred on June 10 during a late game against the Athletics, where he connected on a single pitch to invigorate a stagnant offensive and equalize the score at 1-1.

Jo Adell (Likelihood to Get Traded: Extremely Low)

Jo Adell is another fan favorite and a personal favorite of mine. This year was truly a make it or break it for the gold glove finalist and Adell in June has been crushing the baseball. Adell’s struggles on defense are now a complete thing of the past. He has quarterbacked the outfield incredibly and is continuously stellar defensively. As I continue to write this, Adell has now homered for the 10th time this month and is currently at 17. The knock on him as the year started was his inability to hit the fastball as he incredibly improved from last year hitting off speed pitches. But as of late Adell seems to be hitting everything, especially the fastball. At 25, Adell is still under team control till at least 2027 and is an amazing depth piece that should continue to be a part of the Angels rebuild. He is entering his peak with elite speed and an amazing outfield arm. His power and plate discipline is steadily becoming elite so selling him now could be a huge mistake. In June alone, Adell is hitting .279 with a .735 SLG and 17 RBIs. Adell even homered in three straight games this month, two of which were against the juggernaut Yankees. Similar to Detmers, Adell will surely gain interest if he keeps up his stellar month of June. However, unless a team gives up a significant haul, Perry should hang up the phone immediately.
