After a rough stretch, it's time for a reset as the Angels (12-15) head into a quick two-game set against the division rival Seattle Mariners (16-12) who are currently atop the AL West. The biggest hurdle in this series will be the Mariners rotation as the M's have one of the best rotations in all of baseball. If the Halos want to have any success this series, they'll need to limit the strikeouts and be more patient at the plate. The benefit is the Angels will face the bottom of the Mariners rotation in Bryce Miller and Emerson Hancock.
Game 1 @ 6:40pm PT
The Halos will send Jack Kochanowicz to the mound as he'll face off against right-handed pitcher, Bryce Miller. Entering today's game, Kochanowicz is 1-3 on the year and has a 5.47 ERA in 26.1 innings of work with 13 strikeouts. On the flip side, Miller is also 1-3 on the year while having a 4.21 ERA in 25.2 innings of work with 25 strikeouts. The Angels are hoping Bryce Miller is who he was last time out against the Red Sox when he gave up 4 runs through 4.2 innings of work.
Game 2 @ 1:10pm PT
Game 2 should be a little more favorable for the Halos as they'll send their best current starter to the mound in Tyler Anderson. He'll face off against the youngster, Emerson Hancock. Entering today's game, Anderson is 2-0 on the year with a 2.60 ERA in 27.2 innings of work with 22 strikeouts. On the flip side, Hancock is 1-1 with a 7.71 ERA in 11.2 innings of work with 11 total strikeouts. Hancock since returning to the big leagues on April 17th has made 2 very good starts, his inflated ERA is from his first start on March 31st when he gave up 6 earned runs while only recording 2 outs against the Detroit Tigers. Since then, Emerson Hancock has made 2 starts in which he gave up only 2 runs in both those outings. Tyler Anderson has been very effective for the Angels as of late recording back to back quality starts.
Predictions-
I will be predicting a split this series. I see Bryce Miller dominating the Angels lineup in Game 1 with Jack K getting hit around by the Mariners lineup. However, I'll predict the Angels and Tyler Anderson bounce back in Game 2 as the Angels lineup will come alive against Emerson Hancock. Mike Trout has been VERY good in his career against the Mariners, so as a bonus, I'll predict Trout goes yard in both games. Next up on the Angels schedule they'll head into Detroit on Thursday as they'll face the Tigers in a 4 game set. Go Halos!
