Way Too Early 2026-2027 Offseason Free Agent Targets

Angels Articles

February 28, 2026 - Written by Isaias Acosta

Spring Training is officially underway, which means that the start of the 2026 season is right around the corner. The direction of this team remains a mystery to many, considering the lack of spending and uncertainty of the managerial position, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have an early look at next year’s free agent class and who the Angels should be targeting to help improve this team. Maybe a miracle can happen, and Arte Moreno will be willing to open his checkbook.

Tarik Skubal

Let’s start off strong with this one. Although the chances of him signing with the Angels are slim to none, one could only dream. In all seriousness, this requires no explanation at all. Tarik Skubal is the best starting pitcher in baseball. It’s no secret that this team needs a true ace to not only anchor the rotation, but to give this team a shot to make the playoffs. Skubal turned 29 back in November and just keeps getting better every season. It’s going to be tough to compete in the Skubal sweepstakes considering the teams that will be pursuing him, but it’s worth a shot. They truly have nothing to lose.

Freddy Peralta

This is a slightly more realistic option for the Angels in terms of money and interest from the player. Freddy Peralta had been a very reliable starter for the Brewers since his 2021 campaign, where he was a first time all-star. Ultimately, he was traded to the Mets after the Brewers insisted, they would not be giving him a contract extension. It also isn’t certain whether the Mets will give him a contract after the way Peralta answered that question with the media. Peralta may not be on the same level as Tarik Skubal, but he is an ace caliber pitcher and could very well help this rotation with the way things are right now.

Bo Bichette

The pursuit of Bo Bichette relies solely on whether he opts out of the contract for next offseason. Bichette departed from the Toronto Blue Jays, signing a three-year, $126 million contract with the Mets. What makes Bichette an intriguing name is that he will switch positions this year, going from shortstop to third base. The Angels don’t have an established infield aside from Zach Neto and maybe Nolan Schanuel. Christian Moore is a primary second basemen and hasn’t yet established himself. Third base is a need for this team and if Bichette can develop a solid glove at third and Moore can solidify his name on the big-league squad, the infield for the Angels could look very nice in the future.

Taylor Ward

A reunion with Taylor Ward would be nice to some fans but would be a step in the wrong direction for others in terms of the future. Ward was a fan favorite within the fanbase especially after he had a career year in 2025 where he belted 36 homers and drove in 103 runs. The left field position is weak coming into the new season, and Ward has made it known that he would definitely be open to a reunion with the Angels.
