It isn’t out of the ordinary to consider this season as an absolute disaster and waste of a year when it comes to this franchise. The reality is that any halo fan could have predicted this outcome considering the nonexistent offseason that they had, and with the hiring of a first-time manager, it was bound to be a regression year. As of today, the Angels sit dead last in the AL West (40-61) and it is very likely that they will hit the 100-loss mark for the first time in their history. The firing of Perry Minasian during the season has possibly shifted the mentality of the front office when it comes to which direction the organization will go moving forward. Reports have been surfacing that the club will be making both Reid Detmers and José Soriano available, as the club will look to capitalize on their solid seasons. If that is the case, it could be likely that more moves could be on the horizon. Jeff Passan has also reported that the team will be “at least listening” to offers for star shortstop Zach Neto. Although the chances of that happening are slim to none, a trade of Neto will officially begin a complete fire sale and rebuild of the franchise. The team has failed to extend him, which makes this news a bit concerning for fans.
The good thing that comes out of this news is that the club is sure to haul in multiple Top 100 prospects, even if Neto isn’t traded. Detmers still has club control until 2028, which makes him the most intriguing trade piece on this team. Word has gone around that Angels could command at least two Top 100 prospects in a deal for him.
It’s probably not the news fans want to hear but it may be needed to bolster the farm system of the club. As of now, Tyler Bremner is the only Top 100 prospect (No. 43) in the system. That could change very quickly with the possible trades of Detmers and Soriano, and potentially, Neto.
