Parting Ways? 5 Angels Who Could Be Traded This Summer

As we continue into the heart of the baseball season, the yearly trade deadline quickly approaches. As the Angels sit only 4 games behind .500, nothing can be ruled out. However, it is worth noting which players could be on their way out come July.
Trade Candidate 1: LHP Tyler Anderson
After coming off of a career year with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022, Tyler Anderson inked a 3 year, $39 million deal with the Angels after declining the Qualifying Offer. His first year as an Angel was pretty rocky, ending the season with a 5.43 ERA and an ERA+ of only 82. His 2024 was much better, being named to his 2nd All Star Game and having an ERA of 3.81. So far this year, Anderson has a 3.86 ERA and will definitely have some trade interest for playoff caliber teams.
Best Fits: Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers
I think the Cubs will definitely look this way come the deadline. The Cubs lineup has done quite well for themselves and the team is 38-22, but the rotation could use an upgrade. Imanaga, Boyd, and Taillon have been a solid 1-2-3 punch, but there really isn’t much else in that rotation and these aren’t exactly names that I’d trust to continue their production into the playoffs. The Dodgers have been dealing with a lot of pitcher injuries this year, and it is uncertain as to if they will pursue another starter. Anderson knows their culture and it would be worth checking in on Anderson.
Trade Candidate 2: Yoán Moncada
Moncada is on a 1 year deal and has found himself back on the IL with knee inflammation and has also had lingering hand injuries this season. However, the production while on the field is there. As I detailed in my last article, his Hard Hit Percentage is well above average and he has 6 home runs in only 30 games. His OPS is the highest it's been since 2019 and he’s rocking a 134 OPS+.
Best Fit: New York Yankees
Yoán Moncada feels like an amazing fit for the Yankees. Adding a power hitting lefty to the Yankee Stadium short porch is generally a match made in heaven, and the Yankees could use a veteran on that side of the infield. Hopefully, Moncada plays more than he did the first 2 months of the season and the Angels can maximize his value.
Trade Candidate 3: Kenley Jansen
Kenley Jansen has been stellar this season outside of 1 bad appearance against the Tigers. He checks all the boxes for a playoff contending team. Jansen is a veteran who brings a lot of wisdom and knowledge to a bullpen, he has been to the playoffs 10 times in his illustrious career, and is a reliable closer.
Best Fit: Philadelphia Phillies
The Angels have had a great trading relationship with the Phillies the last few years, and Jansen to the Phillies would be on par with trades between these 2 teams the last few years. The Phillies added Carlos Estevez from the Angels last year and don’t have a clear-cut closer. Six different players have saves for the Phillies this season, so adding someone like Jansen makes a lot of sense.
Trade Candidate 4: Luis Rengifo
Luis Rengifo has been a staple of the Angels offense the last 3 seasons and has been a reliable hitter before this season. Unfortunately for the Angels, Rengifo has struggled mightily this season and likely doesn’t hold much trade value. He has only hit 1 home run in 190 at bats this year and doesn’t have any redeeming stats. He’s been bad, and there is no other way to say it. If he picks it up, there is a possibility that a team takes a flyer on him based on his past success.
Best Fit: San Francisco Giants
As the Giants try to make a playoff push, they don’t really have much in terms of infielders off the bench. If Rengifo starts to look like someone worthy of a bench spot, the Giants could trade for Rengifo and it wouldn’t cost much.
Trade Candidate 5: Kyle Hendricks
While Kyle Hendricks has been far from stellar this season, he has shown random flashes of greatness that could be enough for a team to take a chance on the aging starter.
Best Fit: Houston Astros
While I am not confident that the Angels would be comfortable trading within the division, the Astros make a lot of sense for Hendricks. The Astros only have 2 starters who have double digit starts this season. Hendricks has 11 starts and even though he hasn’t been amazing, the Astros could use a healthy veteran presence at the back end of their rotation.
Final Thoughts
While the Angels have a few more pieces on expiring deals, these are the only guys that I feel could gain real interest. The Halos could get some great building blocks for the future if they play this right, and one can only hope that the front office doesn’t hold only guys with the dream of doing something notable.
