Hello InsideHalos readers! I’m Alex Sukyas, and welcome to the 7th edition of Fanmail Friday for this season! As a reminder as to what Fanmail Friday is, it's an article series we do here at InsideHalos where each week 1 writer from our team answers questions submitted by you guys on our Instagram story! Now let’s dive into the questions you guys submitted for this week:
Q: Angels Legend Garret Anderson has passed away (Multiple People)
A: It has been sadly reported today that Angels Franchise Legend Garret Anderson has sadly passed away, and it is being heavily suspected it was due to cardiac arrest. Anderson spent 15 seasons with the Angels, and during that time set and still holds franchise records for: Games Played (2,013), ABs (7,989), Hits (2,368), Total Bases (3,743), XBHs (796), Doubles (489), and RBIs (1,292). Anderson also was a key part of the 2002 world series winning team and appeared in 3 All Star Games during his time with the Angels, winning All Star Game MVP once and the HR derby once as well. If you would like to read Anderson's passing fully, check out Jacob Firmage’s article on Anderson.
Q: How much money can Arte Moreno sell the Angels for, if he decides to sell? (@jake_dom & @corydanielestrella)
A: I assume these questions are due to the sale of the San Diego Padres for $3.9B. Now assuming Arte does sell soon, I fully see potential for the team to go for a similar price. Forbes.com values the Angels at $2.8 Billion with everything included. The Padres were valued at $3.1 Billion. Both the Angels and Padres are in great locations with active fanbases. So taking everything into consideration, a reasonable guess would be the Angels sell for roughly $3.6B, with potential to sell for up to $4B and as little as $2.8B.
Q: When will Ben Joyce come back? (@bretthmltn)
A: There isn’t an exact timetable for Joyce to return, but he’s certainly making progress. Joyce recently started facing hitters again a few days ago. This is a good sign for the flamethrower, as it shows hope for Joyce to start a rehab assignment sooner rather than later.
Q: Could Manoah be a bullpen option? (@berickson.2)
A: Yes, he could. While he definitely can be a bullpen option, I do believe he will find himself in the rotation, taking Jack Kochanowicz or Ryan Johnson’s spot.
Q: Will Tyler Bremner make his debut? (@nelly_szn98)
A: I don’t think he will unless the Angels find themselves in desperate need of another starter. Bremner is currently pitching in High A, where he had two solid first starts, not allowing a run. The main reason I say Bremner wont make his debut this year is because of his pitch arsenal. He’s pitching on only 3 different pitches: his fastball, his changeup, and a “work in progress” slider. Now, once he gets his slider figured out and preferably adds another pitch to his arsenal, I think we’ll see him pitching in Anaheim.
Q: Will Soriano keep up his amazing performance? (@lucascar.27)
A: I don’t see why not. Soriano has been doing what he’s been doing against good teams. He’s posted a 0.28 ERA (Leads MLB), 0.73 WHIP (Also leads MLB), and racked up 39 Ks (Leads MLB). Overall, it’s just a matter of whether he’ll keep up his consistency, which I think he’s fully capable of doing.
