Angels Sign Adam Frazier to Minor League Deal

The Angels have signed veteran infielder Adam Frazier on a Minor League deal. Frazier, who is entering his 11th MLB season, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 6th round of the 2013 draft out of Mississippi State University. He has since played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, and the Baltimore Orioles. Over his past 10 MLB seasons, Frazier has accumulated a .264 batting average, .709 OPS, 67 home runs, and 1015 hits, with his 1000th career hit coming this past season with the Royals. Funnily enough, his 1000th hit was a solo home run in a game against the Angels.

2025 Season

In 2025, Frazier’s performance was solid, as he batted .267 with 7 HRS and a .684 OPS. He played 134 total games, split between the Pirates and Royals. 78 of those games were with the Pirates, where he batted .255 with 3 HRs and a .654 OPS. In mid-July of 2025, the Pirates sent Frazier to the Royals, acquiring minor league shortstop Cam Devanney in return. Frazier would go on to play 56 games with Kansas City, batting .283 with 4 HRs and a .722 OPS in that stint.

Outlook with the Angels

As of now, Frazier will compete with young 2nd Baseman Christian Moore and the redemption project 2B Vaughn Grissom for the starting spot at 2nd Base. What Frazier has to offer is veteran experience and consistency with his bat. In his 10 seasons, we only saw 3 where he ended with a batting average below .250, which were his 2022-24 seasons. Assuming that Frazier can replicate these numbers in spring training this year, he should be heavily considered for the starting second base role.

What about his competitors, though? Let’s start with Christian Moore. Moore had a disappointing start to his MLB career in 2025, batting .198 with 7 HRs and a .655 OPS. However, there is still plenty of development to go and serious potential in Moore. For a full analysis of Moore’s major league potential and his outlook for the future, go check out fellow InsideHalos writer Cade Lalim’s article on Moore.

The other potential competitor that Frazier will have for the starting role this spring is Vaughn Grissom. Grissom was acquired by the Angels from the Boston Red Sox earlier this offseason in exchange for minor league outfielder Isaiah Jackson. Grissom struggled in both the Red Sox and Atlanta Braves’ organizations, as he never hit the major league potential many thought he had. He now looks for a bounce-back within the Angels’ organization as he also competes for a starting job.

However, seeing how he has performed throughout his career, I do not think he’s ready for a starting role and still needs more development before being taken into consideration for one. Overall, Frazier will provide a backup plan for the Angels at minimum. While I do think Moore will be the starter this season and Frazier will serve as the backup, there is always the possibility that Frazier wins the 2B job and is the starter come opening day as Moore develops in the minor leagues.
