Report: The Angels will make a Managerial Change...Again

Another year, another change at the helm. Per The Athletic’s Sam Blum and other news outlets, the Angels have once again hit the reset button on their managerial search, as they have relieved both Ron Washington and interim manager Ray Montgomery from their managing duties. The Angels were 36-38 when Ron stepped away from the club for medical reasons, leaving his career as the Angels manager with a 99-137 record. Montgomery in the interim went 36-52 after being a longtime Perry Minasian hire. The Angels as a whole leave the Ron Washington era of two years not running down the west, but by trickling to the cellar. As a whole including the Montgomery portion the Angels have gone a dismal 135-189. Results of this nature often lead to change, and now the Angels embark on another managerial search after years of steadiness with Mike Scioscia.
Potential Candidates reported thus far have been former Angels Torii Hunter and Albert Pujols along with former Major Leaguer Michael Young. Though we will have more candidates surely listed over the coming days to weeks with the likes of Bob Melvin recently becoming available. Perhaps if the Angels look for other managers they reach out to former USA manager in the WBC Mark Derosa or longtime manager and finalist in the last search Buck Showalter. The Angels have typically gone for the flashy name so expect more of the same and a face to sell to the fans. After the failures of Maddon, Nevin, Washington and Montgomery and a lesser extent Ausmus any hire will likely be met with little fanfare and plenty of skepticism until this team earns the fans trust back.
