The Future Arrives: Angels Call Up Christian Moore
June 12, 2025 - Written by Isaias Acosta
Today the Angels have called up their top prospect and MLB’s #56 prospect Christian Moore. Moore was selected 8th overall in last year’s draft and has had a very successful run in the minors since being drafted. Starting the year at AA, Moore had some struggles after returning from a meniscus injury last season but went on an absolute tear after he was promoted to AAA. In 20 games at AAA, Moore carried a slash line of .350/.424/.575 with 4 HR and 18 RBI. Halo fans have been long expecting his call-up considering how fast the organization likes to bring up their prospects, and had it not been for him sustaining that knee injury last season, he probably would’ve been called up in September.
With Yoan Moncada on the IL, it’s more than likely that Luis Rengifo will be getting the 3B reps while they have Christian Moore play his natural position at 2B. Although this may strictly be a depth move to see how Moore performs after his successful stint at AAA, this could also be an indicator that the front office might be looking to make a push at the division or a wild card spot. As of today, the team is 4 games back from first place in the division and only 2.5 games out of a Wild Card spot. They’re coming off another sweep of the A’s which moves them to 7-3 in their last ten games.
When Yoan Moncada comes back from the IL, it could be possible that Moore takes over full time at 2B since Luis Rengifo has been struggling all year. With this move, the Angels have now officially gone young and have entered the “Let the kids play” era and Angel fans should be very excited. The trio of Zach Neto, Nolan Schanuel, and Logan O’Hoppe have all taken a major step forward this year, while Jo Adell has also shown signs of improvement. Christian Moore’s call up is just the cherry on top to a very good start to the season for Angels standards.
The future is certainly bright in Anaheim and all eyes will be on Moore, who will likely make his debut on Friday against Baltimore.
