The Possible Return of Albert Pujols

Following a less than concrete nor confirmed tweet from Hector Gomez yesterday stating that Albert Pujols will be named the manager of the Los Angeles Angels, the media is buzzing with thoughts of Pujols getting closer to being named manager. Pujols whose only coaching experience is from the 2024-2025 Caribbean Series would fit the Arte Moreno bill of wanting a big name hire. Expected to coach in the next World Baseball Classic, if hired by the Angels the Domincan Republic team would be without a manager.
Being listed as the lead candidate does not mean he is guaranteed the job, but the tea leaves are starting to show similar signs of where this road is leading. Regardless of the decision on if Perry Minasian stays or not, this would be an Arte Moreno hire. Pujols, a future first ballot hall of famer, would bring a different expertise to the Angels. Hitting was something that Albert was better than just about everyone for a decade. Jo Adell credited him with what may seem like a small change of hand positoning on the bat but ended up assisting the breakout season for Adell. One of the immortal faces of baseball may be met with questions over his qualifications as a manager, but we seem to be to have a narrowing list of candidates. Michael Young has apparently let it be known to Jeff Wilson that he has no intention of managing. Torii who likely will receive an interview seems to be falling behind Pujols in the pecking order of Arte’s preference. Let us all remember, Torii was offered the first base coach position and turned it down when Washington was hired, so it is highly unlikely we see them on a staff together as he essentially said the only coaching job he would take is manager.
