Angels Make a Trade: Land Vaughn Grissom

Angels News

December 9, 2025 - Written by Kian Behravan

The Angels continue their trend of buying low on former top prospects, as they recently received INF Vaughn Grissom from the Red Sox in exchange for OF Isaiah Jackson.

Grissom, heading into his age-25 season, was a top prospect for the Braves before injuries, resulting in inconsistent MLB time, caused him to drop to a lower-level piece in the Red Sox organization. He spent 2025 in AAA Worcester, where he slashed .270 / .342 / .441 with a 106 wRC+, 24 doubles, and 13 homers in 96 games. He put the bat on the ball, as he posted a 77.9% contact rate with an 88.4 MPH average exit velocity. It's uncertain whether he’ll earn a major league spot, given his fragility and poor fielding skills, but he has played every position except catcher. It is likely that if he is awarded a Major League spot, he’ll be a utility player to fill in when others need a day off. However, right now the infield has a large hole at second base, as nobody in the organization that has played there showed major league success.

Overall, it's a low-risk, mediocre-reward transaction, as they gave up their 2025 8th round pick in Isaiah Jackson, who performed amazingly in college, but doesn't have a large enough professional sample size to determine his worth. Grissom is a guy the Red Sox were going to push off their roster anyway, and the Halos scooped him up for a player deep in their organization.
